Mwanza Furaha
In addition to being the music coordinator, Mwanza Furaha is established as a skilled professional in a career that has spanned over fifty years. She is a gifted vocalist, actor, costumer person and producer with several years of PR/marketing under her belt. She has worked with some Jazz Legends such as Richard "Groove" Holmes, Pharaoh Sanders, Merle Sanders, Pee Wee Ellis, Bishop Norman Williams, Charlie Persip and Billy Ecktine to name a few. She is a featured vocalist with the Red Hot Khachkas, the Jeffrey Chin Trio.
As a solo artist, Mwanza is accompanied by Si Perkoff, Dave Mioke and Carlton Carry. Baum Biem, music critic's article in the Marin Scope/The Music Scene 6/5-11/08 - "The heavy hitting Mwanza Furaha sings with a powerful and sublime voice that lifts each song above the ordinary. Her laconic improvisations give 'Georgia On My Mind' a Cab Calloway feeling, which blends with the mood as the sun sets over the bay. She sings 'My Funny Valentine' with a Samba beat, adding little scat sections that is applauded by the audience."
Mwanza is a member in good standing with the San Geronimo Valley Lions, and is an Ambassador for the American Heart Association. She teaches Performance Development and voice privately.
